Nuru Okanga, a political activist, is celebrating a major relief after his son's hospital bill was fully paid by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki. Okanga’s 10-year-old son had been diagnosed with kidney failure and was hospitalized at Kenyatta National Hospital for over three months. The mounting medical bills had reached KSh 900,000, leaving Okanga, a hustling father, in a difficult position.
Despite reaching out to well-known Azimio politicians, only two, Raila Odinga and Babu Owino, provided some assistance. However, it wasn’t enough to cover the full bill. Okanga expressed his frustration, noting that many politicians he had worked with had ignored his pleas for help.
The breakthrough came on August 12, when CS Kithure Kindiki stepped in to clear the entire hospital bill. Kindiki sent politician Mike Makarena to settle the KSh 900,000 owed to the hospital, bringing immense joy to Okanga, who had been deeply worried about his son's health and the financial burden.
In addition to settling the bill, Kindiki also promised to pay an extra KSh 120,000 to send the boy’s blood to India or South Africa for further analysis, showing his deep concern for the child’s well-being.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Okanga publicly thanked CS Kindiki, praising him for his kindness and for coming through when others had turned their backs on him. Many Kenyans joined in, commending Kindiki for his generosity and expressing their admiration for leaders who show such compassion in times of need
