The nominees for the 6th annual Women in Film Awards (WIFA) have been announced. Singer-turned-actor Sanaipei Tande and Nyokabi Macharia are among seven nominees for Best Actress Film. In the Best Actress TV drama, Single Kiasi star Faith Kabathi and seasoned actress Nice Githinji are among eight nominees seeking to clinch that crown. The nominees are spread across 23 categories with actresses in Film and TV Drama having received the most nominations, seven and eight respectively. This year’s theme will be ‘Inspire Inclusion: Amplifying Voices of Marginalized Women Filmmakers’. Voting for all the 23 categories is now open and will close on Tuesday next week. Online voting is via Mymovies. Africa a movie website will also offer a seven-day rental of the Internationally - acclaimed True Story film about Africa’s first Women's Lacrosse Team from Rift Valley, in SLEEPING WARRIOR. Over the years, WIFA has consistently grown from giving 14 awards in 2020 to 31 awards in 2024, with support from local and international partners. The Awards were founded by filmmaker and editor Dr Susan Gitimu to celebrate women's drive, spirit, and diversity in the Kenyan film industry. The awarding ceremony will be held on 8th March strategically timed to coincide with International Women’s Day. Best Director (Film)
