The body of actress Winnie Bwire Ndubi, best known for her role in the TV drama Sultana, arrived in Mombasa on Sunday, September 8, following her passing on September 5. Winnie, who had been undergoing treatment in Turkey, lost her battle with cancer after a long and courageous fight. Her grieving family, friends, and fans gathered at Mombasa International Airport to receive her body, expressing deep sorrow and emphasizing the urgent need for accessible cancer care to prevent others from suffering the same fate. Winnie's father, Edmond Ndubi, addressed the press shortly after her body arrived, offering a heartfelt tribute to his daughter. "Winnie was very popular because of her multi-talents. She was an actress, a furniture maker, a baker, and a musician. She was an inspiration for most young people," he said. "She bravely fought cancer to her last breath." Winnie's dad revealed that despite her immense pain, Winnie maintained a strong and positive demeanor. "As a family, we can say it is good she has rested. For those who may not know, Winnie has suffered a lot. She was strong and put up a brave face, and people never knew what she was going through. She never cried during the tough times but suffered quite a lot." Reflecting on her strength and spirit, he said: "God decided the best way was for her to rest. We thank God for having given us Winnie. She was also an inspiration to us as parents, but now that she has gone, we pray God can place her soul in eternal peace." He also thanked the many friends and supporters who rallied around Winnie during her illness. The actress sought financial help through online platforms to cover her medical bills, and her father expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming response. "Thank you for supporting Winnie through the cancer journey. May God reward you abundantly," he said. Winnie Ndubi's funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 21, in Busia County, where she will be laid to rest.
