Comedian Kelvin Mwangi, popularly known as Shaniqwa, says his estranged ex-wife, club host Naomi Jemutai aka Mkale Msungu, has never bothered to check on their son since she left their union five years ago. Shaniqwa and Jemutai had a nasty public fallout in 2021 when the comedian claimed his ex-wife dumped him for another man after he was fired from his job at KTN. Though the comedian says they have since reconciled and occasionally communicate, albeit via social media, he claims her ex has never made any effort to reconnect with their son, whom she left behind shortly after he turned one. "Thank God the boy is now living a very good life after a difficult start. I have been taking care of him all by myself since his mother abandoned him. I am no longer bitter towards his mother. I forgave her, because if I don't, who will forgive me my sins?" Mwangi avers. The comic is however perturbed that she has never bothered to check on the boy even though they mended fences. "I'll tell you the truth, it's been a long time since she last saw our son. The last time we talked about her coming to see him was on his second birthday. She kept saying she would come, but she never did. It's been five years since she last saw him," Shaniqwa adds. Revisiting their ugly fallout, Shaniqwa says trouble in paradise began when he lost his job at KTN and the financial burden of providing for their family fell on Jemutai, who at the time had an income stream having landed a job through the comedian's assistance. "This is a subject I never want to talk about. I went through hell raising this child alone when her mother abandoned us to the point where I was close to taking my own life. My world was crumbling, I had just lost my job, and here I was alone with a very young child. I couldn't create content or find jobs because I had no one else to look after the boy. All he had was me and I was in a very bad situation with depression kicking in. That child did not deserve (what he went through)." An emotional Mwangi recounts. Before Jemutai walked out on him, the comedian says he noticed some red flags but continued to ignore them. "I don't want to say she left because of the money, but that's the reality. She started getting phone calls in the middle of the night. I would be in the middle of my sleep and wake up to find her chatting or talking to someone, but I kept ignoring them." he narrated. The silver lining became clearer during their son's first birthday. "In 2020 during our son's first birthday we were going to have a birthday party at my friend's house, then she got a call from someone asking her to go to Ruiru. It was strange because she wanted to go. Of all the days, why today? What is so important that it can't wait that you have to go to Ruiru? I kept asking her. These are some of the red flags I kept ignoring. I didn't know what was happening." Mwangi recounts. When the two fell out, their acrimonious split played out in the public gallery, with the two dragging each other into a series of ugly counter-accusations online, each pointing the finger of blame at the other. Naomi, for her part, denied ever cheating on the comedian and accused him of an array of ills ranging from alcoholism to infidelity.
