Media personality Muthoni Mukiri has ignited a lively debate after questioning why some stay-at-home mums and wives continue to remain at home despite facing financial difficulties. In a video shared on her Instagram page, Muthoni expressed her confusion about why these women choose to stay at home even when their children are at school and their husbands are at work.
Muthoni, who married her husband Isaac Njoroge in 2021, has always been vocal about empowering women to achieve fulfilling relationships. However, she wondered why some women struggle to afford basic needs like skincare products and sanitary towels yet continue to stay at home rather than seeking employment.
She highlighted that some women have even resorted to cutting their hair because they can't afford salon visits. Muthoni's remarks have sparked various reactions online, with some women explaining their reasons for being stay-at-home mums.
One social media user shared that despite being home for eight months after her business collapsed, she felt a stronger bond with her children. Another pointed out that she chose to stay home to be more present in her children’s lives, while others cited a monthly allowance from their spouses as a reason for not working.
Muthoni also advised women to have children only when they are ready, rather than thinking that a man’s financial stability is a reason to start a family. She warned that trying to "trap" men with children can lead to difficult situations for the women themselves.
Her candid questions and advice have stirred conversation, with many women sharing their personal experiences and choices regarding staying at home or pursuing careers
