NARC-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka have issued stern warnings to Acting Inspector General Gilbert Masengeli and the government regarding the police's handling of protests across the country. The protests, which have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries, have drawn criticism for the excessive force used by law enforcement.
Martha Karua reminded the Acting IG that adherence to Kenya's 2010 Constitution is mandatory, and those who violate it will be held accountable. She emphasized that respect for human life and dignity is not optional, and any continued violations by the police will have consequences.
Kalonzo Musyoka echoed Karua's sentiments, condemning the criminalization of peaceful demonstrations. He questioned the state's harsh response to protesters and praised the younger generation, particularly Gen Z, for their active role in demanding better governance and accountability. Kalonzo urged the nation to pray for the country as it faces a challenging period, while expressing hope that the ongoing protests would lead to positive change.
Both leaders' statements highlight the growing concern over the government's response to citizens exercising their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and expression
