social media influencer Joe Muchiri visited his friend Joseph "Jowie" Irungu at Kamiti Prison, where Jowie is serving a death sentence. Jowie was convicted for the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani and was sentenced to death by High Court judge Grace Nzioka in March 2024.
During the visit, Muchiri shared that Jowie is coping with prison life, stating, "Kijana ako sawa. Anapambana tu" (He's okay. Just coping with it). This update comes five months after Jowie's sentencing.
Jowie has appealed the death sentence, arguing that it is unconstitutional and inhumane. However, the current status of his appeal remains unclear.
Jowie's father, Julius Irungu Mwangi, passed away in June 2024, a few months after Jowie's sentencing. He had been battling cancer, and his condition worsened after his son's conviction. His widow, Annastacia Thaama, confirmed that he died at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital
