“On every level of patriotism, we have nothing on Kenyans. Tanzanians, we don't even come close. While we speak with empty words, Kenyans speak with actions," was Ali Kiba's response to a question on the recent protests in Kenya. The bongo flava star made the remarks during a side chat interview at his event in Dar es Salaam recently. With the ongoing protests in Kenya, journalists tried to get the singer's opinion on the events. "The simple truth is that Kenyans are more patriotic than us Tanzanians and I don't think we will ever come close. You can see it clearly with the protests. In Tanzania, nobody can stand up to the government like we have seen in Kenya. We are good at empty talk, Kenyans do it with action and zeal," Ali Kiba said. The singer confessed that he was impressed by the protests led by Generation Z, which put the Kenyan government on the spot over governance issues. "Apart from having a family in Kenya, Kenya has always been my second home since the beginning of my career. It has shaped my career in one way or another and it's a place I visit quite often. For me to support the protests, I spoke to some Kenyans and the general feeling is that they are hurting". Ali Kiba and his estranged Kenyan wife, Amina Khaleef, have two children together. Amina, who has always kept a low profile, filed for divorce from the singer on 8 January 2021, accusing him of negligence.
