In a recent interview, Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia shared a funny yet embarrassing story from the African premiere of Bridgerton Season 3 in South Africa.
Celebrities from across Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, and South Africa, gathered for the event. Jackie, known for her talent on screen, experienced an unexpected wardrobe malfunction that had many sympathizing with her.
Jackie recounted, “It just happened the other day. We were in South Africa for the Bridgerton show. When the show was ending and we were leaving the auditorium, my pants ripped along my thigh.”
In the midst of a crowd, Jackie found herself in an awkward situation. However, the quick response from her fellow attendees turned what could have been a disastrous moment into a display of kindness and support.
“People are so amazing. Everyone came with their big dresses saying, ‘Oh my God, can we cover you up?’ until we got to the car,” Jackie recalled with a laugh. This quick response from fellow attendees, who formed a protective circle around her, ensured she made it to her car with her dignity intact.
Despite the initial embarrassment, Jackie took it all in stride, showing the resilience and good humor that her fans admire. “I felt so embarrassed, but I was like, okay,” she concluded.
For the event, Jackie wore a high-fashion outfit that combined traditional and modern elements. Her ensemble featured a striking blue and red color palette, with a blue bodice adorned with intricate white lace detailing and dramatic, ruffled red fabric on the shoulders. The matching red pants had large, cascading ruffles from the waist, giving the appearance of a flowing skirt while maintaining the practicality of pants. The outfit was completed with high heels, enhancing her statuesque presence.
However, some Kenyans criticized her outfit, saying it did not align with the event's traditional ball gown expectations. Critics argued that the combination of trousers and a half skirt did not capture the elegance and formality of Regency-era fashion. In response, Matubia defended her stylist and the creative vision behind her outfit on social media, emphasizing that it was thoughtfully designed to fit the occasion. Her stylist, Nelly Mulandi, also highlighted the meticulous planning that went into the ensemble.
Jackie's experience at the Bridgerton premiere showcases her ability to handle unexpected situations with grace and humor, endearing her even more to her fans
