The DPP's office provided an update on several critical cases related to the protests, emphasizing the need for thorough investigations and the importance of accurate information to ensure justice.
Key Cases Under Investigation
1. Injury to Dominic Wanjala Mutua
The ODPP received a file on Dominic Wanjala Mutua, who was injured during the protests.
The main suspect denied firing a tear gas canister at Mutua.
The DPP has ordered further investigations, including authenticating video evidence and obtaining a report from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK).
A ballistic report has also been requested.
2. Death of Rex Kanyeki Masai
Rex Kanyeki Masai was identified by his relatives for a post-mortem examination.
Key witnesses, including those who took Masai to the hospital and were present during the shooting, have not come forward.
The DPP has called for anyone with information to assist IPOA in the investigation.
3. Death of Evans Kiratu Karobia
Evans Kiratu Karobia died from multiple organ injuries due to blunt force trauma.
No statements have been recorded regarding the incident.
The DPP directed IPOA to present this case to a competent court for a public inquest and urged the public to provide any relevant information.
4. Shooting of Gianna Markel Obonyo
Gianna Markel Obonyo was shot while riding a bicycle in her parents' compound on June 25, 2024.
She underwent surgery to remove the bullet.
The DPP will review the case further once the ballistic report is available
